Shmaltz Brewing Co., Saratoga, New York

  • This beer is one in a series from He’Brew commemorating modern Jewish heroes. This one is dedicated to the life of Leonard Alfred Schneider, better known as the comedian Lenny Bruce.
  • 10%ABV
  • Head holds up for about a second before almost completely vanishing.
  • Orangen-brown and quite opaque, this beer also retains a consistent carbonation.
  • As an ode to Bruce’s style this beer is made with an “obscene amount of malts and hops” with 8 varieties of one and 11 of the other respectively! This makes from an extremely malty sweet and bitter beer. Flavours of orange and molasses are the most predominant, it’s similar to barley wine.
  • This beer doesn’t seem balanced, it’s both extremely sweet and overbearingly bitter on the finish, hence the name. Confuses the palate.
  • Winner of the best international beer at the calgary international beer festival.
