Les Trois Mousquetaires Microbrasseurs, Brossard, Quebec

  • 6% ABV
  • This is an altbier, one of the only few originally german beer styles. What makes it unique is that this ale is fermented at a cool temperature much like a lager. The result is a mellow and clean tasting ale. I’m uncertain how this particular beer is produced (maybe someone else out there knows? Please lets us know), but it doesn’t seem to match the description of what an altbier should taste like. The alcohol content is also much greater than the typical altbier (4.7-4.9%ABV). This in no way takes away from the quality and favour of this beer, this is a great beer.
  • Pours to a serious red colour, almost the same tone as the lable…I wonder if this was done intentionally? Foggy and full of sediment.
  • The head holds up with large bubbles and a good amount of lacing on the glass.
  • Dusty, fruity hop aroma, with heavy molasses notes.
  • The flavour is complex…..very complex. molasses, oak, earthy, and smoky. As it warms up it gets more and more smokey and oaky, much like a fine scotch.
  • Medium body mouthfeel that is long-lasting on the inside of the cheeks.
  • This is a beer that should be enjoyed over a long period of time, perhaps as a digestif or with a nice cigar, or piece of high quality chocolate.
  • We really enjoyed this beer…perfect for the colder weather.
